Meat prices in Ukraine remain stable in August
Prices for the main types of meat in Ukraine remained largely stable in August. As of August 21, average meat prices had even declined by around 0.4% compared with July, while pork was an exception, rising by an average of 1.16%.
Beef remains the most expensive of the main meat categories. The average price of beef goulash stands at UAH 437.63/kg, while beef ribs cost UAH 282.80/kg. Prices vary considerably depending on the retailer, producer and cut.
Chicken remains the most affordable option. Chicken drumsticks average around UAH 97/kg, whole chicken UAH 104.25/kg, thighs UAH 147.33/kg and fillet UAH 217.97/kg. Branded chicken fillet can be considerably more expensive, reaching UAH 267.65/kg.
Pork prices range from around UAH 207 to UAH 319/kg, depending on the cut. Pork shoulder averages UAH 221.75/kg, ribs UAH 228.13/kg, pork for barbecue UAH 253.33/kg and pork neck UAH 319.39/kg.
Thus, the sharp seasonal increase in meat prices that had been expected has not materialized so far in August. Experts had previously projected that pork prices could rise by up to 8% and chicken by up to 5%. Further price developments will depend on feed and logistics costs, domestic supply and consumer purchasing power.
