Lithuania says ready to help Ukrainian grain exports

After the completion of the grain deal, the Klaipeda port could accept more than ten million tons of Ukrainian grain, but its delivery to the port remains a big problem, harbor manager Algis Latakas has said. According to him, the port will be able to accept some of the grain from Ukraine if the issue of cargo delivery is solved.

“The port is ready, the problem is to deliver this cargo to Klaipeda. This is a huge problem connected with many things, with different states, with different orders, with different interests and so on. If this issue is resolved, Klaipeda today can provide one hundred percent service for a part of Ukrainian grain,” Latakas told reporters.

The port’s throughput capacity is 10-15 million tons of grain, with exports of Lithuanian grain producers amounting to about 3.5 million tons, the port head pointed out. As he noted, the liquid cargo terminal, which until March last year handled fertilizers of the Belarusian producer Belaruskali, is ready to receive grain. “The terminal, of course, stopped with potash fertilizers, the terminal is half ready to handle grain,” he said.
