Kazakhstan sets new export records for rapeseed and linseed

Kazakhstan continues to expand exports of oilseeds, setting new historical records. According to the Bureau of National Statistics and the Grain Union of Kazakhstan, rapeseed exports reached 240 thsd tons during the first nine months of the 2025/26 marketing year (September–May), up 2.14 times from the same period a year earlier. The Grain Union has raised its 2025/26 rapeseed export forecast by another 10 thsd tons to 270 thsd tons, which would mark the highest level on record.

Russia remained the largest buyer of Kazakh rapeseed, accounting for 27% of total exports. Shipments also increased sharply to China, Latvia and Uzbekistan, while exports to Denmark, Iran and Afghanistan resumed. At the same time, deliveries to Poland, Estonia, France and Germany declined compared with the previous marketing year.

Kazakhstan also posted an all-time record for linseed exports. During the first nine months of the season, exports reached 1.08 mln tons, up 2.38 times year-on-year and already more than double the total exported during the entire previous season. According to analysts, Kazakhstan has never exported such volumes of linseed before.

China and the European Union were the main destinations. Imports increased significantly in Belgium, Poland, the Netherlands, Italy and Estonia, supported by higher EU import duties on Russian linseed. Shipments also expanded to China, Afghanistan, Türkiye and Central Asian countries.

The Grain Union estimates that Kazakhstan has become the largest supplier of linseed to the European Union and the second-largest exporter to China after Russia. Supported by strong demand and robust shipments, the 2025/26 linseed export forecast has been raised to 1.25 mln tons, with around 86% of the projected annual export potential already shipped during the first nine months.
