Kazakhstan. A new seaport will be built in Aktau
A new seaport is planned for Aktau as part of the president’s directives to develop transport infrastructure and strengthen the transit potential of the Mangistau region. Regional governor Nurdaulet Kilybay announced that the investment project is valued at $300 million, with the Chinese company “Zhongyun International” as the strategic partner. Currently, the investor is preparing the documents for signing the investment agreement.
According to Kilybay, the project will contribute to the creation of a new international transport corridor China – Kazakhstan – Aktau – Baku – Poti – Europe, which is expected to reduce cargo delivery times by 7–15 days, cut transport costs by 18–25%, and create new jobs. Minister of Trade and Integration Arman Shakkaliev added that two projects are being implemented simultaneously within the development of the Caspian transport hub: a container hub in Aktau port and the multifunctional “Sarja” seaport terminal in Kuryk.
The container hub is planned to have a throughput capacity of 240,000 TEUs, with the company “Port Lianyungang” securing investments worth 47.6 billion tenge. The first phase of the hub was launched in July, and the second phase is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The “Sarja” terminal is financed by private company Semurg Invest with 98 billion tenge; it already operates a general cargo terminal and temporary storage, while construction continues on grain, universal, liquid, chemical terminals, and a transport-logistics center.
