Indonesia forecasts sharp decline in corn production in Q3 2025
In Indonesia, a significant drop in corn production is forecast for the third quarter of 2025, raising concerns in the agricultural sector. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), corn production on a dry basis (14% moisture) in July-September is estimated at 3.60 million tonnes, down 21.57% from a year ago (4.59 million tonnes). “This is a preliminary estimate and may change depending on current field conditions,” said Puji Ismartiini, deputy head of distribution and service statistics at BPS.
The projected harvested area is also reduced to 0.61 million hectares, down 20.45% from the third quarter of 2024. The statistics include corn harvested early or used for animal feed.
The outlook could be further impacted by phytosanitary risks and weather factors such as pests, plant diseases, floods, drought and shifts in harvest schedules. Authorities are calling for increased risk mitigation measures to protect national corn stocks.
