Grain from Ukraine shipped enough food to feed 2 mln people
In the almost three years of the Grain from Ukraine initiative’s existence, food has been delivered to 12 African countries with medium and high levels of hunger (the share of the population that is undernourished is more than 10%), as well as to Jordan, Yemen, and Palestine.
This is stated in the report of the European Policy Center on the impact of the humanitarian program Grain from Ukraine on food security in Africa, according to the KSE Agricultural Center, whose experts also participated in the study.
It is noted that Ethiopia, Nigeria, Kenya, and Somalia received the most support on the African continent. In addition, the reorientation of the program to the supply of processed foods allowed for more efficient transportation of humanitarian goods inland (in particular, to the DR Congo and Sudan).
“The total food supplies from the program are enough to feed more than 2 million people for one year. This has helped reduce the number of people in the acute phase of hunger (IPC 4-5) by 8%,” the experts say.
