German rapeseed meal exports fall nearly 20%
Germany’s rapeseed meal exports declined significantly during the 2025/26 marketing year. According to the German Federal Statistical Office, the country exported nearly 1.2 mln tons of rapeseed meal between July 2025 and April 2026, down 19% from the same period a year earlier.
The Netherlands remained the largest destination, although shipments fell 21% year on year to 468 thsd tons. Exports to Denmark declined 11% to more than 160 thsd tons, while deliveries to Finland recorded the sharpest drop, falling 43% to 96 thsd tons.
Among non-EU destinations, Switzerland remained the largest market, importing nearly 66 thsd tons, down 4% from the previous year. Shipments to the United Kingdom also decreased significantly, dropping 26% to almost 48 thsd tons.
At the same time, some markets posted stronger demand. Exports to Spain increased 64% to around 65 thsd tons, although this growth was insufficient to offset declines in Germany’s key export destinations.
According to Agrarmarkt Informations-Gesellschaft (AMI), the decline in exports was driven by tighter rapeseed meal supplies, stable domestic demand, and stronger competition from alternative protein feeds, particularly soybean meal, which reduced Germany’s export opportunities during the current marketing year.
