EU is reducing imports of soybeans and meal by 8% and 7%, respectively, since the beginning of the season
According to the European Commission (EC), as of May 17, total soybean imports into the EU for the 2025/26 marketing year had decreased by 8% year-on-year to 11.61 million tonnes. Within this volume, Brazil and Ukraine’s market shares increased, while Argentina’s declined.
The decline in soybean meal imports into the EU was 7% year-on-year and reflects subdued demand for soybean meal in the EU region amid a bumper harvest and growing supplies, which is putting some downward pressure on spot prices.
Experts note that soybean meal prices will remain under pressure in the short term.
Total grain imports into the EU for 2025/26 were also lower than for the same period last year, amounting to 22.459 million tonnes—a 20% decrease compared to the same period last year.
