Dairy commodity prices fall

The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) index fell 1.1% at the September 15 auction to $3,868/t. This was the first decline in five auctions since July 7. Trading volume reached 42.44 thsd tons.

Milk fats recorded the sharpest declines. Butter prices fell 5.7% to $4,760/t, while anhydrous milk fat dropped 3% to $5,740/t. Butter has now declined for seven consecutive auctions, losing around $1,000/t, or 17%, over the period and returning to levels last seen in September 2023.

Cheddar prices, meanwhile, jumped 16.5% to $4,070/t, the highest level in six auctions. Mozzarella moved in the opposite direction, falling 6% to $3,990/t.

Skim milk powder was almost unchanged, edging up 0.1% to $3,690/t. Whole milk powder declined 0.8% to $3,560/t.

According to the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine, the weighted average dairy price at the auction was $3,868/t. Price trends remain mixed across products, with milk fats continuing to weaken while some cheeses and milk powders remain at relatively high levels.
