Corn and flour in short supply as Ukraine reports on exports

According to the agency, more than half (55.5%) of the total supply is corn —12.64 million tons, another 8.41 million tons of wheat (36.9%) and 1.63 million tons of barley (7.1%).

The pace of grain exports since the beginning of the current MY is 31.43% lower than in the same period last MY (from July 1, 2021 to Jan. 2, 2022, 33.2 million tons were exported).

From the beginning of 2022/2023 MY and until Jan. 2, 2022 Ukraine exported:

• 8.41 million tons of wheat (1.91 times less compared to the same period a year earlier)
• 1.63 million tons of barley (3.2 times less)
• 12,500 tons of rye (9.7 times less)
• 12.64 million tons of corn (9.5% more)
• 69,000 tons of flour (+15.9%).

On Jan. 1, only 15,000 tons of corn was exported from Ukraine, other crops were not exported to foreign markets.

The average daily export rate for the reporting period of Dec. 21 – Jan. 2 increased by 46.1% compared to the prior period of Dec. 14-21.

Ukraine exported 48.51 million tons of grains and pulses in 2021/2022 MY, which is 8.4% higher than in the previous year, despite the full-scale invasion of Russia and difficulties with the export of agricultural products due to the blockade of Ukrainian seaports.
