China has reduced its import of vegetable oils by 6.5% and increased its import of soybeans
According to the latest data from the General Administration of Customs of China, cited by the Chinese commodity market analysis system SunSirs, China imported 732,000 tons of edible vegetable oils in August 2025, more than 100,000 tons more than in August 2024.
From January to August 2025, China imported a total of 4.452 million tons of vegetable oil, down 6.5% from the total import volume of 4.763 million tons in the same period in 2024.
Detailed statistics on the categories of oils imported into the country are not provided.
The publication also reports that China’s soybean import volume in August 2025 reached a record high of 12.279 million tons, up 5.2% from July and up 1.2% from the same period last year (12.14 million tons), setting another record high.
Since the beginning of the year, China’s total soybean import volume has reached 73.312 million tons, up 4% from the same period in 2024, with the total import volume amounting to 70.479 million tons.
