Bunge launches largest soy protein concentrate production facility in the US
Bunge Global SA has officially launched a new soy protein concentrate production plant in Morristown, Indiana. According to the company, the facility is now the largest operation of its kind in the United States.
The new site is a fully integrated complex producing soy protein concentrate (SPC) and textured soy protein concentrate (TSPC). The plant operates in a single technological cycle alongside Bunge’s existing processing facility in the region. The project has created around 70 new jobs.
The company expects the new facility to increase demand for locally grown soybeans by approximately 4.5 million bushels. Total investment in the project reached $550 million. Construction of the plant was first announced in 2022 as part of Bunge’s long-term strategy to expand its value-added processing and food ingredient business.
The new production capacities are expected to support growing demand for soy protein ingredients used in plant-based meat alternatives, processed meat products, pet food, and animal feed production. Bunge also noted that the facility will improve operational efficiency across its US processing network.
Bunge CEO Gregory Heckman said the Morristown facility is one of the company’s key strategic assets and represents a combination of innovation, agriculture, and partnership with local communities. According to him, the project will strengthen Bunge’s position in the market for high-protein food ingredients and feed components.
