Brazil’s corn export market remains uncertain

Brazil’s corn export market continues to lack a clear pricing trend, with inconsistent price spreads across ports and limited buying interest, according to Argus.

The market remains under pressure due to a wide gap between buyers’ bids and sellers’ asking prices. Brazil is currently harvesting its second corn crop (safrinha), and buyers expect prices to decline as the harvest progresses and supplies increase. For now, many importers continue to favor lower-priced Argentine corn.

Sellers, however, believe prices should strengthen because record domestic demand is expected to keep the market supported throughout the season. Exporters may have to raise procurement prices to compete with the domestic market, where corn consumption is projected to reach an all-time high due to expanding corn-based ethanol production. In addition, producers are reluctant to lower prices significantly, as they purchased seed at higher costs and continue to face elevated transportation and operating expenses.

The current FOB Paranaguá price for October shipment stands at US$215.75 per ton.

According to the USDA, Brazil is expected to harvest 138.0 mln tons of corn in the 2026/27 season, which began in March 2026, up from 136.0 mln tons in the previous season. Corn exports are forecast at 43.0 mln tons, compared with 42.0 mln tons a year earlier.
