Argentina’s sunseed exports are growing
In December 2025, Argentina’s sunflower seed exports rose to 63,000 tons, with active shipment rates continuing at the beginning of the current year, according to analysts from Oil World (Germany).
As specified, the bulk of Argentine oilseed was shipped last month to countries in the Black Sea region, with small shipments also made to South Africa and the EU.
Analysts forecast that Argentina’s sunflower seed exports will reach 400,000 tons in January-March 2026 and 290,000 tons in April-June 2026. Overall, in 2025/26, the country’s oilseed exports could reach 860,000 tons, primarily to South Africa.
It was previously reported that Argentina’s total sunflower seed exports in September-October 2025/26 were more than double last year’s level, reaching 460,000 tons compared to 133,000 tons the year before.
As a reminder, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) forecast a sunflower shortage and a soybean surplus in its first report of the new year in the 2025/26 season. Global sunflower seeds production is estimated at 52.1 million tons. The largest decline is expected in Ukraine: -2.5 million tons (-19.2%).
