Argentina expands premium beef exports amid strong global demand

Production of certified Angus beef is rising sharply in Argentina. Around 12 thsd tons were certified in the first six months of 2026, compared with 8 thsd tons in all of 2025. The annual volume could exceed 20 thsd tons by the end of the year.

China remains the largest market for certified Argentine beef, while the US has moved into second place ahead of the EU. Stronger demand for premium cuts is supporting Argentina’s strategy of increasing the average value of beef exports rather than focusing only on volumes.

Tighter supply from some major producers is creating additional opportunities for Argentine exporters. The industry expects this to help strengthen the country’s position in higher-value market segments, particularly in the US, EU and China.

At the same time, Argentina’s cattle herd is beginning to recover after several years of stagnation. Producers are focusing on improving productivity through investment in feed, silage, infrastructure and genetics.

The livestock sector is also increasingly viewed as a way to add value to grain production. Corn, in particular, is being considered not only as an export commodity but also as a feedstock for producing higher-value beef.
