Algeria’s state grain agency OAIC held an international tender on August 5, purchasing an estimated 540-720 thsd tons of milling wheat. While the final volume has not yet been confirmed, most traders estimate the purchase at around 720 thsd tons.

According to market participants, the wheat was bought at $289-290/ton C&F, significantly above the price paid in the previous tender. In comparison, Algeria purchased more than 800 thsd tons of wheat in June at around $264-265/ton C&F.

Although the tender allowed wheat from optional origins, traders expect Romania and Bulgaria to be the main suppliers. Russian wheat was also offered but attracted little interest despite its lower price, as buyers were reportedly concerned about the impact of recent attacks on Russian ports and commercial shipping.

The purchased wheat is scheduled for shipment in three delivery windows between September 15 and October 31. Suppliers from South America, India, and Australia are required to ship one month earlier.
