A third of Poland’s grain harvest will go to livestock farming
About a third of the grain harvest in Poland this year will be used as animal feed. This was announced by the head of the Polish Ministry of Agriculture, Stefan Krajewski, explaining this by the negative impact of weather conditions that developed in the summer.
The minister emphasized that there is no shortage of grain suitable for making flour. It is expected that the volume of wheat supplies for consumer needs will reach 8.5 million tons, while the needs of the flour industry fluctuate between 3.8 and 4.0 million tons.
The problem for the Polish agricultural market is insufficient demand for feed grain, caused by a decrease in the number of livestock, primarily pigs. Prices for grain crops, especially those used for feed, do not meet the expectations of farmers, Krajewski admitted.
Some farmers are forced to sell grain immediately after harvesting, without waiting for prices to rise, due to the lack of suitable storage facilities. The situation was complicated by the temporary suspension of public procurement, as reported by Elewarr representative Adam Rytelewski, who explained it by technical reasons.
