A new major corn processor has emerged in Ukraine
A large-scale deep corn processing complex is planned in Ukraine’s Odesa region. Biostarch Technologies intends to locate the facility in an industrial park in Zelenohirske, Podilsk district. The project is currently undergoing an environmental impact assessment.
The future plant will have a processing capacity of 600 tons of corn per day, or around 198 thsd tons per year. This could make the facility a major new domestic consumer of Ukrainian corn and increase the volume of grain processed within the country.
Corn starch will be the plant’s main product, with annual production capacity of up to 139.3 thsd tons. The facility will use wet milling technology, allowing corn to be separated into its main components and maximizing the use of raw materials.
In addition to starch, the plant will produce gluten, corn germ, dry extract and pelleted feed from corn fiber. A grain storage facility with a simultaneous capacity of 36.4 thsd tons is also planned to secure raw material supplies.
The industrial park’s road and rail infrastructure is expected to facilitate both corn deliveries and shipments of finished products. The project reflects a broader trend toward investment in deep processing of agricultural commodities in Ukraine and production of higher value-added products.
