2022/23 Argentina Soybeans 95.5% Planted, Dryness Slows Progress

The weather seems to be improving somewhat in Argentina and if the forecast for more rain verifies, it could help to stabilize the soybean crop.
Last week and over the weekend, Argentina recorded some of the best rains thus far this growing season. Rains were active across Cordoba, Santa Fe, Entre Rios and Buenos Aires with amounts ranging from 1-2 inches. Over the next 10 days, rains should remain active across northern and central Argentina. More rain is needed because the core production areas of Argentina have registered the driest conditions in over 60 years.
The soybeans in Argentina were 95.5% planted as of late last week compared to 98.6% last year and 98.3% average. There are approximately 720,000 hectares of soybeans left to be planted in Argentina. The ideal soybean planting window in Argentina closed last week and approximately 40% of the soybeans are now flowering or beyond.
The condition of the soybean crop is rated 60% poor/very poor, 37% fair, and 3% good/excellent. The good/excellent percentage is down 1% from the prior week. The soil moisture for the soybeans is rated 70% short/very short and 30% favorable/optimum. The favorable/optimum percentage is down 4% from the prior week.
Below is the soybean condition rating in Argentina from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange for January 19, 2023.
