Conceptual trends and prospects of agricultural exports to Sub-Saharan Africa

Partnership with African countries is becoming increasingly important for Ukraine, turning into a potentially promising export destination. Despite the high level of competition in this market, everyone can find their place, as there is a steady trend of increasing consumption and exports to the African continent.

Traditionally, wheat has been one of the leading grains supplied to these countries. However, the demand for corn has been growing in recent years. This is due to the growing consumption both by the population and due to the development of the livestock industry.

According to the United Nations, the continent’s population is growing steadily and will reach 2 billion people by 2050. At the same time, the natural and climatic conditions will not allow expanding the land to meet the nutritional needs of the growing population.

Ukraine has long-standing trade relations with North Africa and continues to develop them, while Sub-Saharan Africa is an underdeveloped export destination. This is due to certain specifics in the organisation of trade relations.

When exporting to African countries, one should take into account trade peculiarities and pitfalls that arise when exporting to these countries.
