Xinhua today reminds: “China is very important to US soy”
China’s state news agency Xinhua published a short GLOBALink release today quoting Jim Sutter, CEO of the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), as saying “China is very important to us.” The quote is taken from a full interview Sutter gave Xinhua on November 7, 2025 in New York, in which he described China as America’s “most irreplaceable customer,” highlighted 43 years of cooperation, investments in training and sustainability programs, and stressed long-term mutual trust.
Today’s brief Xinhua piece emphasizes China’s position as the world’s largest soybean importer and the top buyer of U.S. soybeans, underscoring the resilience of the partnership despite ongoing trade tensions. Sutter, who led the U.S. soy delegation at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) earlier this month, stated that agriculture has always served as a “bridge between nations” and must be strengthened in times of uncertainty. By presenting the November 7 quote without reference to the original interview, Xinhua frames it as a fresh statement — likely to reinforce the narrative of continued cooperation ahead of key trade developments.
