Winter wheat sowing has started in the USA
Last week U.S. farmers began sowing winter wheat, Zerno On-line reports, citing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). By September 1, 2% of the planned area had been sown.
At the same time, farmers continue harvesting spring wheat. By September 1, the crop had been harvested from 70% of the planted area. On the same date last year 68% of spring wheat area was harvested, while the average for the last five years was 70%.
Corn harvesting has not yet begun. 65% of corn crops are now in good to excellent condition (65% a week earlier and 53% a year ago).
