Winter wheat harvest in the US is progressing at a rapid pace
By June 21, American farmers had threshed 40% of their winter wheat acreage. The harvest pace is the fastest in 14 years. A year ago, only 18% of the acreage was threshed, according to the Zerno On-Line agency, citing the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s forecasts, the gross wheat harvest (winter and spring) this year will fall to 42.0 million tons (54.4 million tons last year), as wheat acreage has been reduced to 13.3 million hectares (15.0 million hectares).
The spring wheat harvest will begin later. Last week, the share of spring wheat crops in excellent and good condition decreased from 55% to 54% (54% a year ago).
The condition of corn and soybean crops remains stable. According to NASS, the share of corn crops in excellent and good condition is 68% (70%), soybeans – 66% (66%).
