Wheat and barley harvesting is progressing at a rapid pace in France
The pace of grain harvesting in France is significantly higher than the average and last year, according to the state agency FranceAgriMer.
By June 22, French farmers had threshed 7% of their winter soft wheat area (1% on average over the past five years), 19% (4%) of their winter durum wheat area, 42% (14%) of their winter barley area, and 7% (1%) of their spring barley area.
The condition of grain crops worsened last week. The share of winter soft wheat crops in good and excellent condition by June 22 decreased to 74% (76% a week earlier and 68% on the same date last year), winter barley – to 71% (73% and 64%), durum wheat – to 58% (64% and 71%), spring barley – to 63% (67% and 67%), corn – to 76% (84% and 81%).
