Warm winter in the Northern Hemisphere and lack of precipitation in Argentina will affect grain markets in the coming weeks
In the main growing regions of grain in the Northern hemisphere, the weather was warm with above-average temperatures and little precipitation, which contribute to the accumulation of soil moisture. In Brazil, heavy rains improve the prospects for the future harvest, while the lack of precipitation in Argentina in the next two weeks is a concern for traders.
In the Midwest and the Plains of the United States last week were rains and snowfall, which will continue this week, which amid rising temperatures will have a positive impact on winter crops.
In the Central regions of Brazil, the rainy season continues, but the amount of precipitation in the southern states is below normal, although they remain timely. This weather will continue next week, and will contribute to the flowering and filling of soybeans and the development of corn crops of the first harvest.
In Argentina last week, the front brought scattered rains, but sufficient precipitation fell only in the state of Cordoba. During the week, a new front will bring scattered rains, and temperatures will rise to 28-30°C at the end of the week. In some areas in the Southeast of the country on soybean and corn crops may be dry phenomena.
In Australia, the weather is dry, which allows you to accelerate the harvest of wheat and canola, but adversely affects the crops of sorghum and cotton. In the next two weeks in the areas of cultivation will be the fronts that will bring little precipitation.
Ukraine is experiencing warmer than usual weather with light precipitation, which is improving soil moisture reserves and crop condition. In some regions, there is a slight layer of snow, but most fields remain uncovered, so the temperature drop next week to -5…-10 cC will increase the freezing of moisture from the soil.
In Russia, almost the entire territory is covered with 10-30 cm of snow, which, against the background of temperatures of -5…-10 oC, creates satisfactory conditions for wintering winter crops, although some analysts have lowered their forecasts for the future wheat harvest. In the Krasnodar and Stavropol regions, temperatures in December exceeded 5 oC, which, together with low precipitation, contributed to the development of late crops.
