In China, the garlic harvest this season has exceeded expectations due to an expansion of the area to 855,000 hectares and favorable weather, but the increase in supply on the market has led to a drop in product prices. Li Ming, garlic manager of Onedayone Group, noted that the country’s export volume is increasing, but the average price has already fallen by 13.6%.

This is reported by AGF.

In May, a new harvest season began in one of the main growing regions of the crop, Jinxiang. Last year, prolonged rains in October forced the planting of garlic to be postponed until mid-November. Many in the sector were worried that the shorter growing cycle would hurt production and quality, but the harvest ended up being much better than expected, said one local farmer. According to experts, favorable weather in winter and spring offset these risks. In addition, good market prices last year prompted farmers to expand the area under the crop by 8% compared to the previous year.

The new crop has good export size performance. Most of the garlic is in the 5.0-6.0 size class, which is well suited for European and Middle Eastern markets, Li Ming added.

China is the world’s largest producer and exporter of garlic, accounting for more than 70% of global production and more than 80% of global exports. Customs data shows that in 2025, export volume increased by 1.4% compared to the previous year. With the new crop entering the market, the downward trend in prices is expected to continue.
