USDA lowers sunseed forecast for Ukraine
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) revised its sunflower seeds and processed product crop forecasts for the MY 2026/27 in its July report.
Analysts lowered the harvest estimate for Ukraine, while they raised it for Russia. Similar changes occurred in the forecasts for the production of sunflower oil and meal.
The USDA lowered its forecast for sunseed production in Ukraine to 13 million tons, which is 0.5 million tons less than expected in the June report (13.5 million tons). At the same time, the forecast for Russia was increased to 20.7 million tons compared to 19.5 million tons in June (+1.2 million tons).
The forecast for sunflower oil production for Ukraine was also worsened – to 5.42 million tons compared to 5.63 million tons in the June report (-0.21 million tons). For Russia, the USDA raised its estimate to 7.72 million tons, which is 0.21 million tons more than it had forecast a month earlier (7.52 million tons).
Along with the harvest forecast, the estimates for sunflower meal production were also revised. For Ukraine, the USDA lowered its forecast to 5.2 million tons from 5.41 million tons in June (-0.21 million tons). For Russia, on the contrary, the forecast was raised to 7.68 million tons against 7.48 million tons (+0.21 million tons).
