US winter wheat harvest reaches one-quarter complete
By June 14, American farmers had threshed 25% of their winter wheat acreage, according to the Zerno On-Line agency, citing the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS). The harvest pace is exceeding market expectations. By the same date last year, 9% of the acreage had been threshed, compared to an average of 13% over the past five years.
Spring crop conditions improved last week. According to NASS, the share of spring wheat in excellent and good condition increased to 55% (52% the week before and 57% a year ago). The share of corn in excellent and good condition reached 68% (67% and 72%), while soybeans reached 66% (65% and 66%).
