US officially cancels 83% of USAID programs
The US is officially canceling 83% of USAID programs. This was announced on the X network by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“After a 6-week review, we are officially canceling 83% of USAID programs,” he said in a statement.
He noted that tens of billions of dollars were spent on the 5,200 contracts being canceled in a way that “did not serve (and in some cases even harm) the core national interests of the United States.”
The remaining USAID programs will be transferred to the management of Elon Musk’s DOGE. This is about 1,000 programs.
