Ukrainian rapeseed prices supported by recovery in futures
Rapeseed prices in Ukraine received support from a recovery in global futures, although further gains are being limited by weak export demand and rising logistics costs to the EU. Export bid prices at Danube ports increased to $480–500/t, or UAH 21,500–22,000/t, while prices at the western border reached $490–510/t, or UAH 22,000–23,000/t, delivered to terminals.
Global rapeseed markets strengthened noticeably last week. November canola futures in Winnipeg gained 5.7% over six sessions to CAD 814/t ($587/t) and were up 7.1% for the month. November rapeseed futures on MATIF rose 4.4% over the week to €544.75/t ($630/t), supported by gains in canola and crude oil prices.
At the same time, demand for Ukrainian rapeseed for September delivery to processors in the Czech Republic and Germany remains weak. Prices on the European route stand at €505–515/t for September-October delivery and €525–535/t for December-January. Demand has also emerged for Ukrainian rapeseed delivered by truck to Constanta, Romania, at around $580–585/t.
Ukraine sharply increased rapeseed exports in August, shipping 255.2 thsd tons on August 1–27 compared with just 11.8 thsd tons in the corresponding period of July. Germany was the largest buyer with 109.2 thsd tons, followed by the Netherlands with 84.3 thsd tons and the Czech Republic with 25.1 thsd tons. Meanwhile, EU imports of Ukrainian rapeseed since the start of 2026/27 MY were down 42% as of August 23 to 112.2 thsd tons.
Ukrainian processors are keeping bid prices for rapeseed with 44% oil content at UAH 20,000–22,000/t delivered to plants. Growing domestic supply and unresolved logistics problems for rapeseed oil and meal continue to pressure the market, while transportation costs could rise further in September-October as exports of sunflower seed, soybeans and corn accelerate.
