Ukrainian farmers ready for ggradual integration into the EU Common Agricultural Policy
Ukrainian producers already comply with many European Union standards on food safety and traceability, and the next step is integrating the agricultural sector into the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). This was stated by Taras Vysotskyi, Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment, and Agriculture of Ukraine, during a roundtable discussion at the European Parliament.
Vysotskyi emphasized that Ukrainian farmers are ready to meet European standards. He noted the importance of an individual approach within the framework of implementing the CAP, including the gradual adoption of standards, transitional periods, and support mechanisms that would allow Ukrainian farmers to modernize.
“Ukrainian producers already comply with many EU standards on food safety and traceability, particularly in the export of grains and oilseeds. The next step is the integration of Ukraine’s agricultural sector into the EU Common Agricultural Policy. This will enhance the competitiveness of Ukrainian farmers in the European market and strengthen Europe’s food security,” Vysotskyi stressed.
Following the event, it was agreed to strengthen institutional cooperation between Ukraine and the European Commission, develop a model for the gradual integration of Ukraine into the CAP, and coordinate a roadmap for adapting national standards, particularly regarding plant protection products.
Members of the European Parliament confirmed their commitment to building an integrated, sustainable, and competitive European food system by incorporating Ukraine into the Common Agricultural Policy.
