Ukraine’s early grain yields are 56% higher than last year at the start of harvest

The average yield of early grain crops in Ukraine has significantly exceeded last year’s level at the beginning of the 2026 harvest campaign. As of July 3, the average yield reached 4.07 t/ha, up 56% from 2.61 t/ha recorded on the same date in 2025, according to the Ministry of Economy.

Winter wheat has posted the strongest improvement, with its average yield rising to 4.13 t/ha compared to 2.59 t/ha a year earlier, an increase of 59%. Barley yields have climbed from 2.84 t/ha to 4.19 t/ha (+48%), while pea yields have increased from 1.78 t/ha to 2.25 t/ha (+26%).

As of July 3, Ukrainian farmers had harvested 251,400 hectares of grain and legume crops, equivalent to 3% of the projected harvest area, producing 1.022 million metric tons of new-crop grain.

Barley accounts for the largest share of the harvest so far, with 719,400 metric tons collected. Farmers have also harvested 264,600 metric tons of wheat and 35,100 metric tons of peas.

In addition, Ukraine has begun harvesting rapeseed, with 2,680 metric tons already collected.
