Ukraine plans to resume consultations with the European Commission in September on updating and increasing tariff quotas for certain agricultural products. Agriculture and Food Minister Taras Vysotskyi announced this during an extended online meeting on agricultural logistics, the use of tariff quotas and expanding access for Ukrainian products to foreign markets.

During the meeting, representatives of agricultural associations and businesses raised the issue of revising EU quotas for Ukrainian products, including sugar, starch and molasses products, alcohol and bioethanol.

According to Vysotskyi, Ukraine currently intends to make maximum use of existing EU trade instruments, including global WTO quotas with reduced tariff rates, while preparing for a broader review of trade terms.

“Our goal is to use all available opportunities here and now while simultaneously preparing for a broader review of trade terms. We currently see significant untapped potential in global quotas, where reduced tariff rates allow businesses to operate efficiently today. At the same time, starting in September, we plan to resume consultations with the European Commission on updating and increasing quotas for sensitive products,” Taras Vysotskyi said.

He added that Ukraine needs well-grounded analytical input from agricultural businesses to build a strong negotiating position.
