The situation around the Strait of Hormuz and its blockade will have long-term consequences for global trade and energy, in particular, it will stimulate countries to search for alternative routes for the supply of oil and goods.

This was stated by the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Georgy Tykhy, in the issue of “LIGA.Redaktsiya”.

According to him, the risks in the region are already forcing the states of the Middle East and the Persian Gulf to rethink logistics and form new supply chains. In this context, Ukraine is joining the discussion of future routes together with Syria and Turkey.

Tykhy emphasized that an important role in these processes is played by Syria, which geographically connects Turkey with the countries of the Middle East, which makes it key for the new logistics architecture of the region.

In particular, during the visit of President Volodymyr Zelensky to Syria, negotiations were held with the participation of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and the Syrian minister. The parties launched a trilateral cooperation format, within which issues of logistical routes are discussed.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized that the restructuring of logistics chains in the region is a process that will take decades and involves significant investments. Ukraine is already participating in these processes at an early stage and is counting on economic benefits from future changes.

“The president’s visit to Syria is far from just some symbolic gesture. These supply chains were specifically discussed there… This is all very serious. This is the future of restructuring logistics chains in this region for decades and tens of billions of dollars. And Ukraine will take a direct part in this, one might say, is at the origins,” Tykhyi said.

Further development of the grain and oilseed markets of Ukraine and the Black Sea region will be in the spotlight of the BLACK SEA GRAIN. KYIV conference, taking place on April 22–23 in Kyiv. The event will focus on strategic directions for the agricultural sector through 2030, including investments, energy independence, processing, and exports of high-value products.
