Ukraine resumes authorization for pork imports from Spain
Ukraine has officially recognized the principle of regionalization in line with European Union standards, allowing the resumption of fresh pork imports from Spain. Restrictions had previously been imposed on Spain due to outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF).
According to reports, Spain’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) has agreed with Ukraine on a mechanism that allows exports from ASF-free regions, even if outbreaks have been recorded in other parts of the country.
Under the agreed conditions, meat exported to Ukraine must originate from areas where no African swine fever cases in domestic pigs have been recorded over the past 12 months.
In addition, animals must come from farms and slaughterhouses located outside infected zones, and no ASF cases must be recorded within a 10 km radius of those establishments for 40 days prior to slaughter.
It is also reported that meat export certification is now being implemented in electronic format.
MAPA believes these measures will support the gradual recovery of Spanish pork exports to markets outside the European Union.
