Ukraine plans to open a second agri-hub in Africa this autumn

The “Ridne” consortium, which opened the first Ukrainian humanitarian food hub in Ghana in April 2026, plans to launch another center in East Africa this autumn. This was announced by the chairman of the consortium’s supervisory board, Michael Penrose, according to Latifundist.com.

According to him, while operations from West Africa, particularly Ghana, allow support for regions such as Sudan and the Sahel countries (the belt stretching from Senegal to Eritrea between the Sahara Desert and the southern savannas), East Africa would make it possible to reach Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and other countries in need of humanitarian assistance.

One of the potential countries being considered for the next humanitarian hub is Kenya.

“There is suitable infrastructure there. However, we will still conduct a detailed analysis to determine the best location,” Penrose said.

The new hub is expected to be launched later this year, either in autumn or closer to the end of the year. Before that, the team plans to test supply operations together with major humanitarian organizations, particularly for deliveries to Sudan and the DRC.

Why the first Ukrainian food hub was established in Ghana

The “Ridne” consortium explained that Ghana was chosen as the starting point for humanitarian aid centers in Africa because of its stable economy and favorable logistics for supporting regions that require humanitarian assistance.

In particular, the country has a major port near Accra that provides access to imports, while the hub itself is located about 20 km from both the port and the capital, making it highly convenient for operations. By comparison, establishing a hub in the DRC is not being considered due to security risks, unstable production conditions, and electricity supply problems.

Following the first deliveries and assistance provided to around 10,000 people in Ghana, the “Ridne” team is currently taking a pause to assess the results and plan further steps. The next wave of humanitarian aid is tentatively scheduled for autumn, approximately in October.

The “Ridne” consortium brings together 87 farmers and processors that provide a full production cycle — from growing raw materials to manufacturing finished products for humanitarian missions. The logistics hub is located in the Cherkasy region of Ukraine, where a center for assembling aid packages has been established.
