In January 2024, Ukraine reached pre-war export volumes by sea, and in terms of total exports, it is already approaching the levels that were before the full-scale invasion.

This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a government meeting, Ukrinform reports.

“The Ukrainian maritime logistics corridor has been operating for six months. Six months ago, we lifted the blockade of the Black Sea and intensified Ukrainian maritime trade,” he reminded.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine noted that in parallel with this, they managed to launch a project to insure Ukrainian exports against military risks.

He explained that it is about insuring ships that call at Ukrainian ports.

“More than 660 ships have already sailed through the new grain corridor, transporting about 20 million tons of cargo to 32 countries,” Shmyhal said.

According to him, 70% of these cargoes are agricultural products of Ukrainian farmers.

“In January, we reached pre-war export volumes by sea, and in terms of total exports, we are already approaching the figures we had before the full-scale invasion,” the Prime Minister informed.

At the same time, the head of the Ukrainian government emphasized that last month, in monetary terms, Ukraine’s total exports amounted to $3.1 billion, of which $1.9 billion was maritime exports. He emphasized that this helps to accumulate the state’s internal resources, “because every hryvnia that comes to the budget from export trade goes to defense, to better supply the military, to buy drones and ammunition, to innovative defense products, and much more.”

In addition, Shmyhal emphasized that increased exports strengthen the country’s economy.

According to him, in the first month of 2024, the state budget received 14% more taxes and 30% more customs payments than planned.

“In total, the general fund of the state budget received UAH 116 billion, and the total revenues to the general and special funds amounted to UAH 154.2 billion,” Shmyhal added.
