Ukraine considers establishing an agricultural hub in Egypt to expand agricultural exports

Ukraine and Egypt are discussing the possibility of establishing a Ukrainian agricultural hub that could serve as a permanent platform for promoting Ukrainian agricultural products in Egypt and other countries in the region. The initiative was discussed during a meeting between Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Taras Vysotskyi, and Egypt’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Ahmed Salama Mohamed Elhamshary. First Deputy Minister Denys Bashlyk also participated in the talks. This was reported by Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.

According to Denys Bashlyk, establishing an agricultural hub could become a long-term instrument for strengthening the position of Ukrainian producers in Egypt and other regional markets. However, the initiative is still at the discussion stage. The next step will involve detailed work on the future hub’s operating model, logistics solutions and potential mechanisms for attracting international partners to implement the project.

The two sides also focused on preparations for a Ukrainian agricultural trade mission to Egypt. During the upcoming visit, meetings are planned with key government agencies responsible for grain procurement to discuss new opportunities for Ukrainian exporters. Taras Vysotskyi emphasized that Egypt remains one of the key markets for Ukrainian agricultural products. Ukraine is therefore interested not only in maintaining existing trade relations but also in expanding its market presence.

Another important topic of the talks was the difficult situation surrounding Ukrainian grain exports through the Black Sea. According to Vysotskyi, restrictions on maritime shipping affect not only Ukrainian farmers but also global food security, particularly the stability of grain supplies to Egypt. Ukraine is making maximum use of alternative export routes via the Danube, railways and road transport. However, their capacity is insufficient to fully compensate for the capabilities of deepwater Black Sea ports.

Following the meeting, the two sides agreed to continue working on the development of bilateral agricultural trade and preparations for further contacts between Ukrainian and Egyptian representatives. The prospects for establishing the agricultural hub will depend on agreeing on its operating model, organizing logistics and attracting partners. At the same time, implementing such an initiative could help Ukrainian exporters strengthen their presence in the Egyptian market and expand opportunities for selling agricultural products across the region.
