Ukraine and Poland agree to speed up freight traffic across the border
Ukraine and Poland have agreed on further steps to increase border crossing capacity and accelerate freight traffic across their shared border. The agreements were reached during a meeting of the heads of the two countries’ customs services in Warsaw.
The sides discussed increasing the optimal number of vehicles that can pass through border checkpoints each day without reducing the effectiveness of customs controls. Particular attention was given to expanding joint customs controls and ensuring uninterrupted truck traffic along the entire border.
Another measure will be the exchange of advance information on goods and vehicles. This is expected to help customs authorities complete procedures faster, make better use of risk management systems and reduce waiting times at the border.
Ukraine and Poland also discussed launching a pilot project to exchange logistics information between the two customs administrations. At the same time, the sides are finalizing an updated memorandum on an early-warning system for emergency situations at the Ukrainian-Polish border.
The measures are aimed at reducing queues, increasing checkpoint capacity and maintaining stable flows of goods between the two countries. The sides agreed to continue joint work on improving border operations.
