Ukrainain rapeseed: When logistics matters more than the crop
Article author:
The new rapeseed season is developing under conditions where logistics has become the key market driver. While the export duty introduced in MY 2025/26 redirected rapeseed from exports to domestic crushing and stimulated record exports of processed products, the main challenge in MY 2026/27 is the operation of Black Sea ports.
Rapeseed exports immediate fell to 1.9 M mt, down 39% compares previous season. Only 59% of the harvest was exported vs. multi-year traditional 85–95% range. So, increasing volumes are now processed domestically. Rapeseed processing increased to 1.3 M mt, up 160% from the previous season.
Despite generally favorable crop prospects, the ability to export the new harvest will determine price formation, competition between exporters and crushers, and the overall balance of the domestic market. At the same time, Ukraine continues to strengthen its position as a key supplier of rapeseed and rapeseed oil to the European market, while exports of rapeseed meal are becoming increasingly diversified geographically.
