UK will harvest the lowest oat crop in seven years
According to the preliminary estimates of AHDB experts, the oat harvest in the UK in 2023 will be the smallest since 2016, amid the reduction of the sown area and lower grain yields in some regions of the country.
In addition, it is noted that now in the country the prices for oats are higher than for feed corn, which reduces the demand for it from the livestock industry, continuing a similar trend of the previous season.
Thus, in the last two months of 2022/23 season (May and June), the UK feed producers used only 4.3 thsd tonnes of oats per month, the lowest since August 2020. Last season, the total feed consumption of oats in the country decreased to 349 thsd tonnes, the lowest since 2019/20 MY.
In the first two months of the current season, the consumption of oats by the UK feed producers decreased to 3.4 thsd tonnes in July and 3.8 thsd tonnes in August, the lowest figures since 2017/18 MY.
