UGA summarizes Ukraine’s MY 2025/26

In the MY 2025/26, which ended June 30, 2026, Ukraine exported 41.1 million tonnes of grain and oilseeds. That’s down from 46.7 million tonnes the previous season and well below the 57.5 million tonnes exported in 2023/24.

The decline reflects lower grain and oilseed production, the EU’s quota on wheat imports, and — inevitably — this year’s logistical bottlenecks caused by Russia’s continued strikes on Ukraine’s energy and transport infrastructure, particularly ports and sea grain terminals. Global price conditions, including in the fuel market, also weighed on exports. Together, these factors limited how much Ukrainian grain could move through the deep-water ports of the Odesa region. Even so, Ukraine kept exporting grain and helping secure food supplies for many countries worldwide.

For context, UGA estimates put last year’s grain and oilseed production at 80 million tonnes (versus 79 million tonnes in 2024). Carry-in stocks at the start of the season stood at around 7.4 million tonnes (versus 7 million tonnes in 2024/25). This year, export bottlenecks pushed carry-out stocks for the new season up to nearly 13 million tonnes.

Wheat exports came in at nearly 14 million tonnes (versus 15.5 million tonnes last season), out of production of about 22.5 million tonnes. Barley exports totaled 1.52 million tonnes (versus 2.25 million tonnes last season), out of production of 4.9 million tonnes.

Corn exports in 2025/26 reached 21 million tonnes (versus 21.5 million tonnes the previous season),  out of last year’s production of 31.1 million tonnes.

Soybean exports totaled 2.7 million tonnes (versus 3.8 million tonnes the previous season), out of a 5-million-tonne harvest. Rapeseed exports came to 1.82 million tonnes (versus 3.2 million tonnes the previous season), out of production of 3.2 million tonnes. The sharp drop in oilseed exports reflects a somewhat smaller harvest, but the main driver was Ukraine’s new export duty on rapeseed and soybeans.

Sunflower seed exports totaled just 35,000 tonnes, out of last year’s 11-million-tonne harvest. As a result, sunflower processing in Ukraine, including carry-in stocks, reached 10.5 million tonnes.
