The USDA’s winter wheat condition rating is below a year ago.

48% of the crop is in good to excellent shape as of Sunday, 8% less than last year, largely due to year-to-year differences in conditions during dormancy.

5% of the winter wheat crop has headed, matching the five-year average.

2% of corn is planted, matching the normal pace.

4% of cotton is planted, compared to the usual rate of 6%.

13% of sorghum has been planted, compared to 14% most years in early April.

24% of rice is planted and 12% has emerged, both ahead of average.

3% of spring wheat is planted, in-line with typical progress.

The USDA’s weekly national crop progress and condition reports are scheduled to run through the end of November.
