President Donald Trump visited the state of Wisconsin, where he met with farmers and sought to reassure them that his policies are working in their favor, despite rising fuel prices, higher input costs, and broader economic pressures linked to the ongoing conflict in Iran.

During a press conference, Trump acknowledged that farmers have faced increased costs for energy and fertilizers in recent months. However, he expressed confidence that prices would eventually return to previous levels or even decline.

The president also announced an expansion of the crop insurance program, highlighting a record $12 billion in federal support for farmers. He added that his administration is considering further increasing financial assistance to the agricultural sector.

However, not all experts agree with the administration’s assessment. Agricultural economist Chad Hart from Iowa State University noted that direct payments do not address structural market challenges, including the need for more stable pricing mechanisms and lower production costs for farming operations.

The press conference took place alongside John Deere agricultural machinery. Trump previously threatened to impose 200% tariffs on the company if it moved part of its production to Mexico. In May 2026, it was also reported that he had acquired shares in Deere & Company, drawing additional attention to his relationship with the agricultural equipment manufacturer.
