As of September 1, thanks to the work of the grain corridor, Ukraine exported about 1.5 million tons of grain. 60 loaded ships left three Black Sea ports to deliver Ukrainian grain, rapeseed, sunflower and other products to African countries and the EU.

This was announced by the ambassador on special assignment at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Olga Trofimtseva, on the Suspilne broadcast.

“If we compare it with the complete blockade of the ports, this is a great result. If we talk about the normal operation of the Black Sea ports, then it is not so much, because 5 million tons, and in the peak months and more – this was a normal loading of the ports until February 24,” Trofimtseva commented on the statistics.

According to her, the Ukrainian government is watching the further work of the grain corridor “with cautious optimism”.

“Export geography, albeit on a limited scale, returns to pre-war times, until February 24. The last ships are directed to African countries, where the situation with food security and access to basic food is currently aggravated,” Trofimtseva said.

In addition, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs drew attention to the need to simplify phytosanitary and customs procedures, because there is a problem with queues at European land borders, through which large volumes of Ukrainian products are also exported.

It will be recalled that on July 22 in Istanbul, at the suggestion of the United Nations, Ukraine, Turkey and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres signed the Initiative on safe transportation of grain and food products from the Ukrainian ports of Odesa, Chornomorsk and Pivdenny.

On August 1, as part of the implementation of the agreements, the first ship – RAZONI under the flag of Sierra Leone – departed from the Odesa port. The ship was carrying 26,000 tons of Ukrainian corn.
