Syria cancels wheat procurement tender
Syria’s state procurement agency has cancelled an international tender for 200,000 tonnes of wheat, Reuters reports.
The deadline for bids for the wheat supply ended on September 15. According to the tender terms, delivery was to take place within 60 days of the contract being signed.
Syria is expected to announce a new tender soon.
Imported wheat will help cover the domestic deficit. As previously reported, Syria could face a food crisis due to crop failure.
In the last tender, held in March, Syria purchased approximately 100,000 tonnes of Black Sea wheat. This is believed to be the first major grain tender since the change of power in Syria at the end of last year.
