Sunseed shortage supports price growth in Ukraine
The sunflower seed market is facing increasingly acute raw material shortages for processors, with supply deficits becoming more pronounced.
Over the past week, prices moved higher, supported in part by continued strength in the vegetable oil market.
Over the week of April 24 – May 1, the sunflower price increased by UAH 200 to UAH 31,700/t (USD 721/t).
Planting progress for the new crop remains significantly behind normal pace, down 48% vs 2025 and 56% below the five-year average.
Cold weather has created unfavourable conditions for germination and early crop development, although warmer temperatures are expected to accelerate sowing activity.
The baseline outlook remains cautiously optimistic, supported by expectations of expanded planted acreage and the potential for higher yields than last year.
