Soybean planting in the US is proceeding at a record pace
By May 4, American farmers had planted 30% of the planned area with soybeans, which is the highest figure for this date in history. A year ago, soybean planting was completed on 24% of the planned area. This is stated in the report of the National Agricultural Statistical Service of the US Department of Agriculture (NASS).
The pace of corn and spring wheat planting is also ahead of average. By May 4, 40% of the planned area was planted with corn (35% a year ago and 39% on average over the past five years), and 44% of the planned area was planted with spring wheat (45% and 34%).
The condition of winter wheat crops improved last week. The share of winter wheat crops in excellent and good condition increased to 51%, which is 2% more than the week before and 1% more than a year ago.
