Sowing campaign gains pace: 21% of grain areas sown in Ukraine

As of April 21, farmers of all categories of хозяйств have sown more than one-fifth of the planned areas under grains and pulses. The highest pace is observed in the southern and central regions.

In total, 1,251.9 thsd hahave been sown, or 21% of the forecast for grains and legumes. Of this:

• wheat – 158.8 thsd ha,
• barley – 623.8 thsd ha,
• peas – 238.3 thsd ha,
• oats – 117.5 thsd ha,
• corn – 75.7 thsd ha,
• millet – 1.2 thsd ha.

In addition, farmers in Kharkiv region have started sowing buckwheat (0.01 thsd ha).

The largest areas of grains and pulses have been sown in:

• Odesa region: 168.2 thsd ha (wheat – 10 thsd ha, barley – 35 thsd ha, peas – 95 thsd ha, oats – 1.2 thsd ha, corn – 0.8 thsd ha, sunflower – 34.5 thsd ha);
• Ternopil region: 96.3 thsd ha (wheat – 13.3 thsd ha, barley – 58.4 thsd ha, peas – 4.1 thsd ha, oats – 4.6 thsd ha, corn – 14.6 thsd ha, sugar beet – 16.1 thsd ha, sunflower – 69.9 thsd ha, millet – 0.3 thsd ha, soybeans – 3 thsd ha);
• Mykolaiv region: 89.4 thsd ha (wheat – 4 thsd ha, barley – 47 thsd ha, peas – 35 thsd ha, oats – 0.5 thsd ha, corn – 1.4 thsd ha, sunflower – 8 thsd ha, soybeans – 0.3 thsd ha);
• Poltava region: 86.5 thsd ha (wheat – 4.9 thsd ha, barley – 63.2 thsd ha, peas – 11.5 thsd ha, oats – 1.9 thsd ha, corn – 5 thsd ha).

Sowing of industrial crops is also ongoing. A total of 440.8 thsd ha have been planted. Sugar beet has reached 125.4 thsd ha (64% of the forecast), sunflower – 293.6 thsd ha (6%), and soybeans – 21.8 thsd ha (1%).
