South American countries saw significant growth in soybean exports in September
In September, there was a significant increase in soybean exports from South American countries. According to preliminary estimates from Oil World, shipments increased by 2.3-2.6 million tonnes compared to the same period last year.
Argentina was a key driver of this increase, increasing exports to 2.3 million tonnes in the reporting month, compared to only 0.3 million tonnes a year earlier. Moreover, over 95% of Argentine soybeans were shipped to China.
Brazil also demonstrated positive growth: from September 1 to 29, soybean exports totaled 6.5 million tonnes, exceeding the total export volume for September last year (6.1 million tonnes). Furthermore, soybean meal exports from Brazil increased to 2.05 million tonnes, compared to 1.81 million tonnes in September 2024. This indicates increased processing activity in Brazil, exceeding last year’s figures.
At the same time, a slight decrease in soybean export supplies from Paraguay and Uruguay was recorded in September.
